Who likes a good game of hide and seek? 🌚  Instead of deleting products in your inventory only to have to recreate them later, hiding them from customers is always an option. You can then “seek” them out and put them back on display when you’re ready to sell them again. Ready to play?

Marking Products as Hidden

Hiding a product is much easier that deleting one and possibly having to recreate it later:

  1. Log in to your Admin Area and go to Inventory > Products.
  2. Click to edit a product you want to hide.
  3. Under Advanced Info, on the Product Display tab, select Hide Product.
  4. Click Save.

Now, the product will be hidden from customers on your storefront. To unhide this product, follow the steps above and deselect the Hide Product setting.

Notes

You can also configure a product to hide automatically when out of stock by selecting the Hide When Out of Stock option (directly below the Hide Product setting) and clicking Save.

Please be aware that when you hide a product, it is still accessible via direct link or URL entry. Such products can still be purchased, and may also remain indexed or indexable by search engines. To prevent shoppers who find the product from adding it to the cart, we recommend using the "Add to Cart" Button Replacement Text field. You can find it on the product edit page under Advanced Info > Product Display. Enter any text into this field (for example, "Currently Unavailable"), and that text will appear on the product page in place of an Add to Cart button.

Summary

Whether a product is out of stock or you just want to pull it from display for a while (think seasonal items), hiding products is a great option, so you don’t have to constantly delete and recreate them. Save yourself some time ⏰ and work!
