Your customers don’t have to hire a detective to find the products they want in your store. There are several configuration variables you can use to control how search and search refinement work on your site. These can be accessed via Settings > Config Variables.

Enable "Did You Mean?" Suggestions

Don’t you love it when a search box can read your mind? No matter how much someone mangles the keywords they are searching for with typos and misspellings, they can still find what they’re looking for.

Select the Enable “Did You Mean?” Suggestions option if you want your store’s search to work smarter for your customers. If they enter close misspellings of words that are found in one or more product titles or codes, those products will be included in the results.

Enable Search Refinement

Select this option if you want your site visitors to be able to filter their search results by various criteria to find specific products easier.

Enable Search Refinement On Category Pages

By default, when you enable search refinement, it is only displayed on the search results page. If you check this box, search refinement will be available on category pages, too.

Hide "By Manufacturer" Filter In Search Refinement

If Search Refinement is enabled, you can opt to hide the By Manufacturer menu and use only the By Price menu. Or you can turn both off and use a custom menu.

Hide "By Price" Filter In Search Refinement

If Search Refinement is enabled, you can choose to hide the By Price menu and use only the By Manufacturer menu. Or you can turn both off and use a custom menu.

Enable Search Refinement Result Count Of Category Pages

Select this option to display the number of refinement results found on category pages, as well as the search results page.

Show Search Refinement As Dropdowns

By default, the criteria used in search refinements are displayed as links. Check this box to display them in drop-down menus instead.

Manually Code Search Refinement In Theme

Select this option if you want to manually code the search refinement links or drop-down menu into your theme rather than use the default location. This is intended for advanced users only.

Enable Partial Word Searches

Choose this box if you want to return search results for products when customers enter only partial words into the search box.

Enable Searches In Description Field

Enable this option if you want searches to include product descriptions, as well as product titles and codes. Keep in mind that the Product Descriptions Short, Features, Technical Specs, Extended Information or Product Description Above Pricing fields are never searched.

When this option is enabled, if a search returns multiple pages of results, shoppers can navigate them by clicking on links to each page of results.

The quicker and easier a shopper can find what they’re looking for in your store, the more likely they are to make a purchase. Help shoppers get to the goods they want by configuring search variables for your store.
