Running your own store can be a lot of fun, but it’s also a lot of responsibility, especially when it comes to keeping digital information confidential. That’s why it’s important to keep your Admin Area secure and only grant access to your most trusted team members.
The Admin Access page gives you a report on basic store activity as well as specific activity within your Admin Area. Using this feature can help you monitor store activity and avoid or resolve potential security breaches.
To get started, go to Customers > Admin History. The page is divided into two separate tables — General Access and Administrator Access — and provides a report on your store’s activity.
All Users Past Seven Days
This table lists all unique users who have accessed areas of your store in the last 7 days — including team members who have logged into the Admin Area and customers who have logged into their store accounts. Here you can verify that only those individuals who are supposed to have access actually do.
You can also see the following info:
This field will contain the unique IP address used to connect to your store. Clicking this number will redirect users to the popular whois.net website — a directory of internet IP address data where users can find more information about the location and condition of the IP address listed.
The email addresses (which doubles as the username) of each person will be listed in this column. If this field is blank, the recorded activity is from an anonymous user or an account that has been deleted from your store's customer database. Clicking on the email will redirect you to that user's account in your Customers table.
The date and time the user logged into your Volusion store will be listed in this column.
Most Recent 1000 Hits – Past Seven Days
The second table lists the last 1,000 instances of access granted to the Admin Area over the course of the past 7 days. Unlike the previous table, only administrator activity will appear here.
The data contained within this page is identical to the All Users Past Seven Days table with the exception of one additional field: the Pages Viewed field, which lists the URL extension of the pages visited by the admin in your Volusion Admin Area.
Stopping Suspicious Activity
If you encounter suspicious activity within your store's Admin Area, you can act quickly to prevent security issues.
Click on the email address of the suspicious user to view their account settings. If you verify that the account should not have access to your store, you can immediately delete the account.
If the account appears to be legit, but you believe it has been compromised, you can delete it or simply block access from the IP associated with it.
You can block IP access to your administration area and storefront using the IP Firewall tool under Settings > IP Firewall.
Like your own personal security guard, your Admin Access Page can keep an eye on who’s been in your Admin Area and where they’ve gone within your store. If you see something that looks suspicious, you can act quickly to keep any ill-intended users in check.
