Shipping is an important consideration for any merchant. Let Volusion show you some of the product-level options for shipping.

To access the product-level SEO section, from your store's Admin Dashboard choose Inventory > Products.

From your Product List, choose the product you will be working with and click its Product Code.

Locate the Advanced Info section, and click the Shipping tab.

The Free Shipping Item checkbox allows you to decide if the product in question is eligible for any Free Shipping methods you have set for your store. This allows you to exclude products whose size or weight would end up costing too much to be covered by Free Shipping. To exclude an item, uncheck the checkbox and click the Save button at the top right of the product page.

The Availability menu allows you to select an option from the drop-down menu to inform shoppers of an estimated delivery time. Choosing Select from the list will remove the availability information from the product.

This option shows on the product above the Quantity field.

You can also add a custom Availability choice to the dropdown. Click the Add Custom Text checkbox to activate a text entry field. Enter your custom Availability and click the Add button. Your new availability will show at the bottom of the Availability dropdown.

To turn off the availability information for ALL products, go to Settings > Config Variables from your main menu and search for Display Shipping Availability in the Name field. Uncheck the checkbox and click the blue Save button at the top right of the page to turn off this functionality.

The Estimated Days to Ship field is used to enter information for determining your performance metrics for the Google Trusted Stores program. This Legacy program is no longer offered by Google. It has been replaced with Google Customer Reviews.

The Fixed Shipping Cost field is used to add an extra flat shipping fee to this product. This fee is added to any shipping cost that is applied for the product. This is useful in creating things like Handling Fees, Additional Shipping charges for heavy or bulky items, or Shipping Fees for hazardous items. Enter a cost in the field and click the blue Save button at the top right of the page to create your fee. This fee is added any time that this product is added to the cart. This fee will stack, so adding multiple quantities of this item will add the fee multiple times.

The Fixed Shipping Cost (Outside Local Region) is used to add an extra shipping fee to this product when the shipping destination has been designated as being Outside Local Region. This setting is determined on the Settings > Shipping page and can be set for both US States, Canadian Provinces and Countries.

For any product with a fee set in this field, where the shipping destination has also been designated Outside Local Region, the fee will be applied. This can be useful in adding extra fees to cover shipping to outside CONUS destinations like Alaska and Hawaii, or for adding fees to countries that may charge additional tariffs or taxes. To set a country, state or province to be Outside Local Region, go to Settings > Shipping and in the Ship to Location section click either the Edit Available Countries or Edit Available States/Provinces links.

From the Countries or States/Provinces lists, choose your destination by clicking the ID number of the Country or State/Province. On the details page, uncheck the Country is Local Region or State is Local Region checkbox and click the blue Save button at the top right of the page. Keep in mind, this fee will be added in addition to any shipping already being charged for the product/order.

The Warehouse ID(s) field allows you to assign a product to a Warehouse location for calculation of Live Rate Shipping Costs. Warehouses can be created from your Admin Dashboard by choosing Inventory > Warehouses and following the direction in THIS ARTICLE. To assign a Warehouse to a product, choose it by highlighting it in the Available section and clicking the right facing arrow. This will move the warehouse to the Selected section and any shipping costs will be calculated using the location of the warehouse, rather than your business location.

The Edit page for Warehouses can also be accessed directly from the Shipping section by clicking the Edit Warehouses link.

The Warehouse fields are used to designate the location of a product within a warehouse. This information is printed on the product's Packing Slip, allowing warehouse workers to use the document to locate and retrieve the product. Enter your information in the appropriate field and click the blue Save button at the top right of the product page to save your settings.

After filling out and saving the warehouse information for a product, This information will be displayed on the Packing Slip of any order containing the product.

Displaying this information on the Packing Slip makes locating and pulling the item easier for anyone doing so.

The NonShippable checkbox allows you to designate a product that cannot use standard shipping methods. This is useful for large, heavy or bulky items that require either pick-up or special shipping, such as freight. Click the checkbox and click the blue Save button at the top right of the product page to designate an item as NonShippable. For more information on creating NonShippable products, see THIS ARTICLE. This method differs from Downloadable Products, which are covered in THIS ARTICLE.

In addition to being excluded from all shipping methods on the Shopping Cart and Checkout pages, the item's customer-facing page will show a message indicating the the item cannot be shipped. This message is a clickable link that opens your website's Help Articles and displays information on NonShippable products.

The Help Article outlining NonShippable items can also be directly edited by clicking the Edit Nonshippable Item Help Article link located under the checkbox.

The Hazardous Product checkbox is used to denote a product as Hazardous Material and automatically apply any Hazardous Shipping methods you have previously created. Click the Hazardous Product checkbox and then click the blue Save button at the top right of the page.

When a Hazardous Shipping method has been set up according to the steps in THIS ARTICLE, any product with the Hazardous Product box checked will be assigned the Hazardous Shipping Method on checkout.

The Ships By Itself section allows you to specify the carrier-specific shipping Package Type for this particular product. Configuring a specific package type will cause your checkout page to only deliver shipping Live Rates for the package type and carrier selected.
