Who doesn’t love VIP treatment? Make your most loyal and valued customers feel like Very Important Purchasers by giving them exclusive access to private shopping pages in your store.

First, Categories

In order to create private pages within your store, you must first create one or more private categories that will appear in the menu. These categories, and the pages they contain, will only be displayed to customers who have been granted access. Here’s how to do it:

  1. In your Admin Area, go to Inventory > Categories.

  2. Click Add.

  3. Define a Category Name and assign it to a menu from the Show in Menu drop-down menu.

  4. Under Misc, enable the Private Section Customers Only option.

  5. Click Save.

Now any private categories you created (and any content assigned to them, including products, images and text) will only appear in your store’s menu to those granted access and who have logged into their accounts — including store admins.

The exception: If the Menu Type for the selected Navigation Menu Level is set to either Rollover Colors Popout or List Items Popout (commonly used in legacy themes), the categories will still appear in the menu to all customers. However, only select customers will actually be able to access this category.

To change this, go to Design > Navigation Menu and change the settings there. If the Menu Type for the Navigation Menu Level is set to Rollover Colors Popout, try using Rollover Colors as a substitute. If it's set to List Items Popout, try using List Items.

Adding Products to Private Pages

To add products to private categories, check Private Section Customers Only on individual products. This will ensure that these products do not display if non-private shoppers search for them within your store.

Granting Customers Private Access

To give your VIPs access to private categories, and any pages within them, you need to configure a setting within those customers’ accounts:

  1. Go to Customers > Accounts.

  2. Click on the Customer ID you want to edit.

  3. Under Special Privileges, select Allow Access To Private Sections.

  4. Click Save.

Now these customers can view the contents of the private category when they log into your store, and shop like celebs.

Editing the Page That Shoppers Without Access See

If you want to edit the page shoppers see when they don't have access to view a private section, follow these steps:

  1. In your Admin Area, go to Design > Site Content.

  2. Click Search.

  3. In the ID field, enter "106".

  4. Click the blue Search button.

  5. On the results page, click ID # 106.

You can edit this page as you wish. When you're finished, press Save.

Granting your VIPs exclusive access to private shopping pages is a great way to show your appreciation for your most loyal and valued customers. They’ll never want to shop anyplace else, upping their VIP status even more.
