Most shoppers use the web to browse and comparison shop, looking at many products and thinking about what they want. The problem is, they are also easily distracted by the next shiny new toy that comes along, and they may forget the first few wonderful products they looked at. This is where displaying My Recent History for your shoppers comes in handy.

My Recent History is an optional feature that shows what items a shopper recently browsed at the bottom of each product page. This helps them keep track of things they looked at and prompts them to go back and buy them.

Customers can always opt to turn this feature off, or delete products from their list.

Enabling My Recent History

To start using this feature on your storefront:

  1. Log in to your Admin Area and go to Inventory > Products > Settings > All Products Settings

  2. Select the Display Product History check box

  3. Click Save

As with most storefront elements, the look of this feature can be edited while in admin mode by hovering over the element and clicking Edit.

Displaying Images in My Recent History

A picture’s worth a thousand sales. That’s why it’s a good idea to Enable Recent History Images, which displays small images of the last 4 products visited. Here’s how:

  1. Go to Settings > Config Variables and click Search

  2. In the Name field, enter "image" and click Search at the bottom of the page

  3. Select the Enable Recent History Images check box

  4. Click Save

My Recent History allows shoppers to keep a running list of items they’ve looked at on your store and compare them side by side. It can be just the tool they need to keep your products top of mind and inspire them to purchase.
