Breaking up is hard to do — even if it’s with your products. But if something just isn’t working out for whatever reason, you may need to cut ties, and quick. We’ll show you how to delete up to 500 products at once using the Inventory>Products table. This way, you’ll have room in your store for products that are really right for your brand and its customers.

Switching to List View

By default, your Inventory > Products page displays products in a grid view with thumbnail images. In order to use table editing tools, switch to list view by clicking the List icon above your products table.

Deleting Products From the Products Table

When viewing your Products table in list mode, you should see a Delete column. If you don’t see a Delete column, click the three-dot actions menu icon, select Customize Columns, make sure Delete is selected, and then click Apply Changes.

To delete multiple products at once, select the corresponding check boxes in the Delete column, then click Save.

If you want to delete all the products on that page, select the check box in the Delete column heading.

Using the Search Function

Depending on the number of products in your store, going through the list to delete products one by one can be time consuming – especially if all the products you want to delete share a common variable. For example, you may want to delete all products from a certain storefront category.

In this case, you may find it quicker to use the Search function on the Products page to narrow down the content in the Products table.

  1. From Inventory > Products, click Search.

  2. On the Search page, click Add to Categories.

  3. Select the category the products belong to and click Save.

  4. Click Search at the bottom of the page.

The Products table should now show all the products in the category you specified, and you can delete them as outlined in the previous section.

Customizing Columns

Remember that you can customize the columns of most tables in the Admin Area by clicking the three-dot actions menu icon and selecting Customize Columns. So if you want to delete a large number of products in a single table, you can customize your table to display up to 500 products on one page:

  1. Go to Inventory > Products.

  2. Click the three-dot actions menu icon and select Customize Columns.

  3. Set the Results Per Page to 500.

  4. Click Apply Changes.

Keep in mind that showing a large number of items per page may cause the list to load more slowly, so remember to set the Results Per Page back to a lower number once you're finished.

Advanced Method: Importing Delete Markers

Another way to delete products in bulk is by using the Import feature to set up a "delete" marker on all the products you want to delete. Then you can use the Search method outlined above to find all the products containing the "delete" marker.

First you'll want to find a field that is not in use on any of your products – for example, Custom Field 5, which can be found on your product pages under Advanced Info > Custom Fields.

If you have a .csv list of all of your products, you can add the CustomField5 column to that document and then enter some marking text like "delete" onto all of the products that you want to delete.

After you import the .csv file, all the products that you want to delete will share a common variable that you can search for within the Products table, as follows:

  1. From Inventory > Products, click Search.

  2. On the Search page, scroll down to Advanced Info > Custom Fields.

  3. In Custom Field 5, type in your “delete” marker.

  4. Click Search.

This will bring up a list of all products with the delete marker, which you can now quickly delete page by page.

There’s more than one way to delete products from your Volusion store in bulk. Just pick the method above that works for you and say sayonara to products of the past.
