You can create your first discount in a few simple steps. To begin, go to Marketing > Coupons/Discounts and click Add.

Type in a Discount Name that your customers will see in their shopping cart, then select a Discount Type from the drop-down menu. The Discount Value you enter will correspond directly with the Discount Type you select.

So in this example, we’ll set up a 10% discount off an entire order, so first we’ll choose Percent Off Entire Order as the Discount Type and then we’ll enter “10” as the Discount Value.

Just click Save and we’re done. Now keep in mind that this discount will deduct 10% from every customer’s order, but we can always go back and change that at any time.

If you want to create a coupon, first you need to make sure the Enable Coupon Codes variable is active on your store. You can check this at Settings > Config Variables > Checkout Variables.

Now let’s go back and change our new discount to a coupon. When we select the Coupon check box, we’re given a few more options. So we’ll enter a Coupon Code, then select a Coupon Usage type. And if we want, we can restrict this coupon from being used with any other coupons.

Once we click Save, customers will have to have the coupon code to receive the percent off their order.

If you need to create a very specific coupon or discount, there are a few advanced features you can use. To apply a discount to specific products or categories, click Select Categories or Select Products and choose the ones that apply.

Under the Advanced Info section, you can set a time limit and define quantity and price requirements for your discount.

There’s a lot of ways to get really creative with coupons and discounts. If you’d like more information, visit our knowledge base and search for "coupon" or "discount".
