The search is over! 🔍 Your could-be-customers have found you…and exactly what they’re shopping for. Because of SEO.
See, when you set up meta tags on your homepage…(Insert sound of record player coming to a scratching, screeching halt). Meta whaaa, now?
Meta tags are snippets of text that describe the contents of your page; in this case, your homepage. They don’t appear on the page itself, but only in the page’s code.
When search engines “crawl” your homepage, they use your meta tags to understand what the page is about. They then can index the page and serve it up as a result for the right types of searches. (Keyword tags, however are no longer actively used by US search engines like Google or Bing.)
(Insert sound of record player resuming)…Setting up the meta tag title settings for your Volusion store’s homepage is easy and you non-coders don’t even have to touch a line of HTML (phew!).
Here’s how to do it:
Configuring Storefront Meta Tags
Log in to your Admin Area and go to Marketing > SEO.
Select Enable Search Engine Friendly URLs under the Search Engine Friendly URLs heading.
Enter values in to the Meta Tag Title, Meta Tag Descriptions, and Meta Tag Keywords fields for the default values and any pages you want to assign specific tags to and click Save.
Advanced users can enter their own custom meta tags by selecting Meta Tags Override and entering custom meta information into the Meta Tags Override fields for each page.
Warning: using this field is recommended for use only if you have a thorough knowledge of search engine optimization.
Setting up meta tags for your store is easy with Volusion. Though customers will never see these snippets of text, search engines will. And they’ll use them to determine the content of your page and the relevancy of it to shoppers’ searches.
