If your product options have price differences, you can make the price update automatically when shoppers select the option, or give them an Update Price button to press manually.

These features are particularly useful for products with multiple options, so shoppers can see the price resulting from the combination of options they've chosen. For example, let's say a product has a basic cost of $30 and the following option categories and options:

  • Color: Red, Blue, Silver (add $2), Gold (add $5)
  • Size: S, M, L, XL (add $2)

Selecting Gold and XL results in an updated price of $37. This price won't display on the product page unless you enable price updating. You can learn more about your options below.

Manual Price Update

To enable an Update Price button:

  1. In your Admin Area, go to Inventory > Products.
  2. Click the three-dot more options menu icon.
  3. Select All Products Settings.
  4. In the dialog box, select Display Update Price Button.
  5. Click Save.

The Update Price button now displays persistently. Shoppers can click it to refresh the page manually whenever if they select one or more options with a price difference.

Automatic Price Update

When shoppers select an option with a price difference, you can set the page to refresh automatically and display the updated price upon reload. To do this:

  1. In your Admin Area, go to Inventory > Products.
  2. Click the three-dot more options menu icon.
  3. Select All Products Settings.
  4. In the dialog box, select Auto-Update Product Price.
  5. Click Save.

Now, the correct price shows regardless of which option(s) your shoppers select.

Notes

You must first enable the Display Update Price Button setting (see previous section) in order for the Auto-Update Product Price setting to function.

If you use the Update Price button with the Inventory Control Grid, you should make sure that the price differences are set before creating the child products.

Other Considerations

When the price updates, the prefatory label doesn't change. If you display multiple price labels, the one that updates will be the lowest one on the page (Our Price, or Sale Price if you use it). For more pricing information, see the "Advanced Info" section of our article on global product settings.

For products with options that have price differences, you may want to update the Our Price or Sale Price label. To do so:

  1. Go to Inventory > Products.
  2. Select the product you want to edit.
  3. In the Advanced Info section on the Product Display tab, locate the Product Price Name and Sale Price Name fields.
  4. Enter the text of your choice (for example: "Base Price" or "Updated Price").
  5. Click Save.
