As a busy-bee store owner, you don’t want anything to kill your buzz, especially not your technology. 🐝 But sometimes, you just have too much going on for your computer systems to keep up with.

When navigating through your Admin Area, you may experience a sudden or dramatic drop in page responsiveness or an overall slowness of the system. Before you hurl your computer out the window (We’ve all been there before, yes? No? Just us?), there are things you can do to optimize the performance of your store's Admin Area.

Limit Your Use of Column Edit Mode

It’s a super helpful shortcut to use the table view display mode to quickly edit data in your store's database. But, depending on the amount of data in the table you're viewing, this functionality can suck a lot of energy from the system, and cause a drop in your Admin Area's responsiveness. ⬇️️

To combat this, we recommend using Column Edit Mode sparingly, particularly within the Products page. For example, instead of enabling several columns, simply enable one or two columns to edit. Remember to deactivate the edit mode when changes have been finalized.

Refresh Your Store Admin Session

Everybody needs a little refreshment sometimes. 🔄  Your Admin Area is no different. Refreshing it can address caching issues in your browser (cached login issues, cached Jsavascript errors and store-related tracking cookie issues). It can also help improve your Admin Area’s speed and performance. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to Settings > Maintenance
  2. Click Refresh beside Store Admin Session
  3. Restart your browser to ensure it’s most effective

Put Your Customers First

The Volusion system is engineered to prioritize quality of service to your storefront and shopping cart over your Admin Area, which puts your customers first! So if your store has a sudden influx of visitors (maybe you've just launched a new product or newsletter campaign) you may notice a sudden, brief drop in Admin Area responsiveness.

This is a good problem to have, as it means that you’re getting a lot of site traffic, which hopefully means lots of new orders and cash-money in the bank. And that’s as sweet as honey.🍯

Summary

We know that time is money. That’s why we want to make sure your Admin Area can keep up with your quick pace. With a few minor adjustments, you shouldn’t miss a beat in your busy workday.
