Your customers may browse and browse and browse, and still not find all of the fabulous products you have to offer. 👗 👠 👒 To make sure that they see upgrades and complementary products, you can make use of our Jump To Product Code and Is Product Code functions.

These advanced options enable a second product to be substituted for or added to the selected product when the option is chosen. They can be accessed in your Admin Area like so:

  1. Click Inventory > Options
  2. Select the Option ID you want to edit
  3. Find the Jump To Product Code and Is Product Code options under Advanced Info

See the sections below for how to make the most use of each option.

Using "Jump To Product Code"

Jump to Product Code enables you to offer your customers a substitute or alternative item rather than the one that is displayed. When they select the substitute item and click Add to Cart, the substitute item is placed directly into the shopping cart. The product page for the substitute item is not displayed, therefore it is essential that you make it clear what selecting an option with this feature enabled will do.

This feature is useful if you have options that are products in their own right rather than variants of a product.

Note that only one product code should be entered in the Jump To Product Code field.

Upgrade Example

You sell two models of the same umbrella and would like to offer any customer who views the smaller model the chance to upgrade to the larger model with a single click.

The umbrellas are already set up with the following product codes:

Frobisher's 43" Umbrella = F-43U

Frobisher's 48" Umbrella = F-48U

  1. Go to Inventory > Options
  2. Select Option Categories from the Filter menu
  3. Click Add
  4. Enter "Umbrella Size" for the Category Description
  5. Enter "10" for Display Order (since there will only be one option shown in this example this will not do anything but it is a mandatory field)
  6. Select Checkbox from the Display Type drop-down menu (note that if you have more than one alternative, you should use Radio or Dropdown)
  7. Select Hide Category Description
  8. Select Save and View List from the Save drop-down menu and click Save
  9. Select Options from the Filter menu
  10. Click Add
  11.      Enter "0.00" for Price Diff
  12. Select Umbrella Size from the Option Category drop-down
  13. Enter "Upgrade to 48" model for just $4.00 more!" in the Option Description field
  14. Enter "F-43U" in the Apply To Product Code(s) field
  15. Under Advanced Info, enter "F-48U" in the Jump To Product Code field
  16. Click Save

Now when a customer views the page for the 43" umbrella, they'll be offered the 48" option.

If they check the box and click Add to Cart, the soft Add to Cart pop-up will appear showing they have added the 48" version to their cart.

Using "Is Product Code"

Is Product Code enables you to associate options with additional products, so that when an option is selected that product is "bundled" with the product being viewed. For example, if you're selling a laptop computer, for example, you might also suggest a customer buys any number of complementary products, such as a software package, a mouse, an auxiliary keyboard, a carrying case or an extended warranty.

Note that the price of these products is not taken from their product page; instead the Price Diff on the option edit page is used. This way you can, if you wish, offer a discount on these additional products.

Complementary Product Example

Suppose you are selling several models of cameras that can be used on their own but also with a variety of specialized lenses. These lenses can be bought separately, but if a customer buys a camera and specialty lens at the same time, they will get the lens at a special rate.

The cameras and lenses are already set up with the following product codes. The price to be added for each lens is also shown below:

KX7000 Camera = KX7000

KX7050 Camera = KX7050

KX7550 Camera = KX7550

Wide Angle Lens = KX-BA ($279.99)

Short Telephoto Lens = KX-AALA ($249.99)

Fisheye Lens = KX-EA ($279.09)

  1. Go to Inventory > Options
  2. Select Option Categories from the Filter menu
  3. Click Add
  4. Enter "Add Accessories" for the Category Description
  5. Enter "10" for Display Order
  6. Select Checkbox, Radio, or Dropdown from the Display Type drop-down menu
  7. Click Save and View List from the Save drop-down menu
  8. Select Options from the Filter menu and click Add

Now for each of the three lenses we need to set up a corresponding option. Starting with the first lens …

  1. Enter "279.99" for Price Diff
  2. Select Add Accessories from the Option Category menu
  3. Enter "Wide Angle Lens" in the Option Description field
  4. Enter "KX7000,KX7050,KX7550" in the Apply To Product Codes field
  5. Scroll down to Advanced Info and enter "KX-BA" in the Is Product Code field
  6. Click Save

Repeat these steps to create the options for the other two lenses, filling in the Price Diff, Option Description, and Is Product Code fields from the list above.

Now when a customer views the product page for one of the cameras, they will be offered the option of adding a lens to the purchase.

If they select a lens and click Add to Cart, the soft Add to Cart pop-up is displayed showing only the camera, but the price shown will be for both the camera and the lens.

Clicking the Option link in the Add to Cart pop-up will display the option details.

Note that if you want customers to be able to select more than one additional product you cannot use Checkbox as the Display Type. You will need to set up accessories instead.

Using Products With Options With These Features

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to use products with options in the Jump To Product Code and Is Product Code fields, as there is no way for the customer to select these options between choosing the product and clicking Add to Cart. Instead, you can use the Related Products and Accessories features.

Summary

By offering customers the best of your selection and showing them your range of complementary products, it’s almost like you’re right there with them in your store, offering personalized attention. That type of service and selection is sure to help them fill up their cart! 🛒
