Once you've finished designing your store and setting up your products, you'll need to figure out how to get your products to your customers whenever they place orders. To begin setting up shipping options, log in to your Admin Area and go to Settings > Shipping.

First, click Edit in the Ship From Location section and enter your business address. If you print shipping labels from your Admin Area, this text displays as your return address. It's also used for calculating live rates, if you decide to offer them. We'll address the pros and cons of offering live rates in a moment.

Next, decide where you'd like to ship to. Few online stores sell their products or services to every country and locality in the world, so you'll need to decide which ones you want your customers to be able to select when they purchase. If you click inside the Include field, you can either scroll through the entire list of available selections and choose the one you want, or type a country or locality and select it from the list of suggestions . You can make as many selections as you like. If you choose United States or Canada, you can then use the Exclude field to remove specific states or provinces. When finished, save your settings.

Keep in mind that the billing address fields on the checkout page share the same locations list as the shipping address fields. This means that if you don't allow shipping to a certain country or locality, shoppers won't be able to select it for billing purposes, either.

Now it's time to choose the methods you want to offer. In today's online selling climate, most merchants find that free shipping and flat-rate shipping are much better options than pulling live rates from carriers – for two reasons. First of all, no shopper likes to see an unexpected price jump at the last moment before purchase. In fact, it's the number one cause of cart abandonment. Secondly, anticipating the dimensional needs of your shipments can make configuring your product weights tricky, and it can also lead to pricing inaccuracy no matter how well you plan. That's why we only recommend offering live rates if you have special business needs, or if you plan to work exclusively with carriers like USPS that use simpler pricing formulas.
