Selling products that are stored and shipped from a warehouse? Awesome! Here are a few things you'll need to know to get shipping. 🚚

Getting Started

Warehouses act as an extension of your store's shipping. Once an order is placed, the system checks to see if any of the products are available in warehouses. It then calculates shipping for the entire order based on the warehouse information. (Nifty, right?)

Creating a Warehouse

  1. To get started, go to Settings → Config Variables and make sure the Enable Product Warehousing Options variable is active. (To find it quickly, click Search and enter "Warehousing" in the Name field.)
  2. Then go to Inventory → Warehouses.
  3. Now you'll need to create an entry for your first warehouse! Click Add near the top of the Warehouses page to get started.
  4. Here you can fill in the required information for each new warehouse you create, such as warehouse name, country, state and more!

That's it! Your warehouse is now set up. 🙌  Below, we'll explain some other Warehouse techniques.

Tips and Tricks

Using Multiple Warehouses

With multiple warehouses, you can calculate shipping costs for products shipping from a variety of places. We recommended that you assign only one warehouse to each product! To edit warehouse options for your products, just follow this path:

  1. From your Admin Area, go to Inventory → Products.
  2. Click on the product image to edit it.
  3. In the product's settings page, go to the Advanced Info → Shipping tab

Products Assigned to Warehouses vs. Unassigned Products

In some cases you may have products assigned to one or more warehouses and other products assigned to no warehouses. If an order is placed containing a mixture of products, this is how shipping will be calculated:

  1. Products with warehouses will have their shipping calculated based on the warehouse location.
  2. Products without a warehouse will have their shipping calculated based on your store's address.
  3. These shipping charges will then be added together for the shipping cost. 🌟

Product Locations in Warehouses

You're also able assign a physical location to warehouse products, so that  workers can easily pull items:

  1. From your Admin Area, go to Inventory → Products.
  2. Click on the ID of a product to edit it.
  3. In the product's settings page, go to the Advanced Info → Shipping

Viewing Product Locations

Once a location has been entered, it will  be displayed on the packing slip on each order details page. Click on the Packing Slip link within Quick Order Processing to view or print the order's packing slip!
